One emulates real film stocks inside a pro pipeline. The other builds a look from a sentence, in the browser. They are for different people, and here is the honest split.
Drop a clip, describe the look, export a real .cube LUT. Your footage never uploads.
Dehancer is a film emulation plugin that runs inside host apps like DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro and Final Cut, with profiles of real film stocks plus grain, halation and bloom. LUTly is a standalone browser tool that builds a custom .cube LUT from a plain-English description of the look. Dehancer needs a host app and grading knowledge; LUTly needs a sentence.
If you want authentic film stock emulation, with grain, halation and bloom rendered as texture, Dehancer is the strongest option. It is a paid plugin licensed per host app, and it assumes you already work inside Resolve, Premiere or Final Cut and can grade the footage underneath it.
Honesty first: a LUT carries color, not texture. Grain and halation are effects a LUT cannot contain. But if what you want is filmic color, soft contrast, warm highlights, gentle rolloff, you can describe exactly that to LUTly and get a .cube built on your own footage, with no host app and no pipeline.
| Dehancer | LUTly | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Film emulation plugin | Browser AI color grading |
| Needs a host app | Yes: Resolve, Premiere, Final Cut and others | No, runs in the browser |
| Price | Paid license per host app | Free plan; paid plans for more builds |
| Film texture (grain, halation) | Yes, rendered as texture | No, a LUT carries color only |
| Skill assumed | Grading experience in a host app | None, describe the look |
| Output | Applied effect in your project | Portable 33-point .cube LUT |
| Your footage | Processed in your host app | Stays on your device. Your footage never uploads, only up to 3 small preview stills go to the AI. |
Left is the real source frame straight out of the camera. Right is the same frame with a LUT built from one sentence, applied live.

The pro video plugin does not, it runs inside a host app. Dehancer also offers separate photo products and a mobile app, but the film emulation pipeline creators talk about lives inside an editor.
No. A LUT is a color transform. It can carry the color and contrast character of film, but grain, halation and bloom are texture effects that must be rendered by a plugin or editor.
If you work in Resolve or Premiere already and want the full film look including texture, Dehancer. If you want filmic color on your footage without a pipeline, LUTly, and you can still add grain in your editor afterwards.
Yes. Some people build the base color in LUTly, apply the .cube in their editor, and add texture effects on top.
